I recently started playing a new game, The Last Remnant.  It's a Japanese Role Playing Game produced by SQUARE ENIX, from the same people who created the wildly popular Final Fantasy series.  The game was actually released back in March of this year for the PC but I had only recently picked it up.  The Last Remnant would also mark the first time that SQUARE ENIX has released a game to the PC in years.  The last releases on the PC being Final Fantasy VII and VIII. 

So far, I have been impressed with the graphics for this game.  It's visually stunning and does remind you of a Final Fantasy game.  Certain movements ingame does look a bit awkward but is negligible.  The game is very fluid in motion with the occasional slowdown, but I attribute that more to my PC's processor than the game itself.

The plot for the game seems solid enough and does have the markings of epicness.  I haven't played that far into the game yet, but so far I am enjoying the story.  The game revolves around two siblings, Rush and Irina Sykes, children of famous researchers within the story.  Irina gets kidnapped at the very start of the game for reasons unknown and now Rush is doing what he can to rescue his beloved sister.  I'm looking forward to more character development as the game progresses as they have introduced a good number of interesting characters. 

The combat system is standard turn based but introduces a new system that is different from your regular JRPGs.  Instead of being able to control a set of 3 or more characters, you actually are able to create squads between the characters that have joined your party.  These squads known as unions act like small parties within in a bigger battle and may attack any number of enemy squads.  One gripe about the system is that instead of being able to give a specific command of what skills to use, you can only give general commands to each union and let the AI decide the best next move.

All in all, The Last Remnant is a solid game and a good alternative to your standard SQUARE ENIX titles.  Though the game is reportedly tough, I hope to finish this game.
